XBOX GAMES TESTING
Business Challenge
Blitz Games, an independent game developer based in the UK, was hired to develop three Xbox/Xbox 360 titles as part of a consumer promotion at Burger King restaurants across North America. The titles, Pocketbike Racer, Big Bumpin, and Sneak King, were created specifically for sale with the purchase of the company’s BK™ Value Meal. To ensure that all three games met the specific criteria for use with both Xbox and Xbox 360, an experi-enced VMC team was brought in to oversee
The development of the titles, as well as man-age the pre-release testing and QA process.
VMC Solution
VMC assembled a team to work with the Blitz Games’ developers. Closely
Monitoring the game design and development process, VMC conducted ac-
ceptance tests at each development milestone, communicating test results
To Blitz, and escalating extraordinary issues to be addressed as necessary.
They also carried out twice-weekly bug triages in conjunction with specific
Code and content milestones. The VMC team developed a release plan for
the games, documenting the localization, certification, and release strategies
for each title.
VMC coordinated various stakeholders to gather feedback and work with the
Development team to ensure recommendations were implemented. Be-
Cause of its relationship with Microsoft’s Xbox team, VMC quickly put the
Testing process into action to make these games work flawlessly.
Results
VMC brought all three games full cycle, from Pre-alpha through release-to-market. In
The post-mortem report, VMC reported on best practices and made recommenda-
tions for future improvements.
“Having VMC manage the testing and release process for us was invaluable,” said
Andrew Oliver, CTO, Blitz Games. “Their professionalism, experience, and attention
To detail were fantastic.”
Since the release of the games in the Burger King promotion, there have been 3.2M
Units sold in North America.
